There are about 800 Tongan RSE workers who are struggling to get news from their Tongan families following the volcanic eruption and tsunami disaster. Industry leaders met late last week to work out what support can be offered to the workers who work in horticulture and viticulture. Tongan RSE liaison officer Sefita Hao’uli says some workers have not been home since the start of the pandemic nearly two years ago. Others are keen to stay in NZ to earn money to help their families recover.
