Westmere Butchery has taken out New Zealand’s top sausage award – the Supreme Award at the 2019 Devro Great New Zealand Sausage Competition. Inspired by a pie the Chicken, Leek, and Bacon sausage beat out over 500 others from more than 90 producers around New Zealand, to claim the top spot.
Owner David Rossiter has been in the game for 45 years but shares the praise with Manager Glenn McKendry, who picked the winning sausage. There were 13 categories across five days of category judging with a cast of butchers, foodies, chefs, and industry heavyweights, poking, sniffing and tasting the sausages. This weekend is a celebration of the sausie with The Great New Zealand #SausageFest. By the way, the People’s Choice Award went to Avon’s Butchery in Glen Innes, Auckland, with a Beef, Garden Herb and Garlic entry.
