A Waikato Truck Wash business and a farmer have been fined  a total of $109,000 over separate pollution events. The truck wash business, Paddy Smith Limited, was fined $60,000 by Judge Jeff Smith for the unlawful discharge of animal effluent from the washdown of stock trucks and  Hauraki farmer William Gary Brunt was fined $49,000 by Judge Brian Dwyer for unlawfully discharging animal effluent from a holding pond at his Netherton farm. Waikato Regional Council compliance manager Patrick Lynch says in both cases there was adequate infrastructure but they had been poorly managed resulting in two completely avoidable incidents.
