A five-stand World strongwool lamb shearing record of 3740 has been set by five King Country shearers with Te Kuiti gun Jack Fagan topping the day’s tallies with 811 – He was immediately declared the “fastest Fagan on earth” by his father Sir David Fagan. In fact it was a Fagan affair as the men all work for Te Kuiti based Fagan Shearing and are aged between 18 and 35. And include two Welsh shearers. Organiser Neil Fagan says the highlight of the day was cousin Jacks record clipping that total of 811 lambs in 9 hours and it was poignant as 29 years ago to the day his father – Sir David – set a record after shearing 810 lambs. Neil Fagan says the team of five shearers out did themselves in the heat: The record had been unclaimed in the books of the World Sheep Shearing Records Society but now stands at 3,740 lambs shorn in 9 hours
