Northland farmers are concerned about an increasing number of stock thefts. The latest victim is Ruawai farmer and Kaipara Mayor Jason Smith who has had 307 new season lambs rusteled between 17 November and 1 December. Jason Smith says the farm manager noticed they were missing last week during mustering for sale. Jason Smith says you can’t insure against stock thefts so the farm will have to cop the loss. He says there were no obvious signs of where or how the stock were removed from the property – but it have to take a truck and trailer to clear that amount of stock.
