And while dairy is the flavour this week, do not discount Oat Milk in the future. Another stage in its NZ journey is the appointment of Former Southlander Justin Riley as chief executive of NZ Functional Foods aiming to build an oat milk plant near Invercargill. The proposed carbon-neutral plant at Makarewa, could be operating by the end of 2022 and pumping out 40 million litres of Oat Milk a year. Justin Riley says Oat milk has overtaken almond and soy in the UK, Germany, Sweden and is  picking up in the US. He says with New Zealand’s oat growing centre being  Southland, building the plant there makes sense. Warehouse Founder  Stephen Tindall’s investment company K1W1 and the Southland regional development agency Great South are the current shareholders.
