The decision to phase out livestock exports by sea has been met with despair by some in the agricultural industry with fears that the ban will result in job losses, diminished trade figures and even a  souring of trade relations with China. But Agriculture Minister Damien O’Connor  says he hasn’t had too much negative reaction. He’s had good robust discussions he understands their disappointment… but a lot of farmers are uneasy about this trade. Mr O’Connor says to continue to be able to tell the best NZ Story they had to put animal welfare ahead of any economic gains.
