Westland Milk Products has gone ahead with its suspension of milk collection from dairy farms owned by the Gloriavale Christian Community. June 13 is the final collection date and is effectively the last day of the milking season, ensuring there will be no issues around livestock welfare or milk disposal. But Westland also says Gloriavale will need to make changes before it will again take milk under a contract. The decision comes after an Employment Court finding that Gloriavale dairy farms had used child labour and treated workers as volunteers. Silver Fern Farms is also stopping commercial arrangement with Gloriavale while ANZCO Foods and Alliance Group are reviewing their relationships too.
