Two big organisations in agriculture are joining forces to produce wool and hemp fibres for clothing, carpets and packaging. Large rural services company Carrfields, headquartered in Ashburton, and hemp processing company Hemp New Zealand have set up New Zealand Natural Fibres. They want to ride the wave of changing consumer behaviour shunning plastics and synthetic products for sustainable materials. Products the new company is exploring include wool and hemp blends for soft flooring and blending hemp and merino fibres for outdoor activewear.
