The Government and Spark, 2Degrees and One NZ formerly Vodafone are joining forces to speed up the rollout of 5G to regional towns across New Zealand. Minister for the Digital Communications, Ginny Andersen says they want everyone in New Zealand to have access to good mobile wireless coverage –no matter where they are. The deal aims to deliver a faster roll-out to around 55 rural and regional towns across New Zealand. The bigger towns include the likes of Tokoroa Oamaru and Te Awamutu with populations of around 13,000 down to the Wellsford Martinborough and Murupara with around 1700 people. The Government has stumped up with $107 million. Spark, One New Zealand and 2Degrees will each pay the government $24 million between 2023 and 2025.
