Toyota has confirmed an electrified Hilux will land in New Zealand in early 2024. In New Zealand the ute scene is the largest segment of the local car and light commercial market. The Toyota hybrid Hilux will enable many tradies, farmers, and businesses to reduce their carbon footprints. Currently there is only one EV Ute on the market the LDV T60 fully electric ute at just under $80,000. Toyota has been a slow starter in EVs but has always considered hybrid technology the best solution to decarbonisation until fully battery electric technology is both available and affordable. The 4×4 Hilux models will have 3,500kg braked towing capacity. Tow bars are added to 98% of new Hilux sold. Toyota New Zealand expects the first hybrid Hilux units will be available in the first quarter of 2024.
