With the new coalition government announced today one of the big questions was who would be in charge of Agriculture. With the three coalition partners confirming a commitment to supporting farmers the decision on who would be Ag Minister was answered with Todd McClay being announced in the role. Todd McClay will be Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Hunting and Fishing, Trade and Associate Foreign Affairs. The former Foreign Affairs minister lost that role to the right Honourable Winston Peters. Former Federated Farmers President Andrew Hoggard has been given outside Cabinet roles as Minister for Biosecurity, Food Safety, Associate Minister of Agriculture and Associate Minister for the Environment. NZ First’s Mark Patterson and National’s Nicola Grigg also have associate agriculture roles.
