New Zealand shearer Floyde Neil and brother Levi Neil claimed some record-breaking Merino shearing history in southern Western Australia on Saturday. Despite significant lower and middle back pain the 30-year-old from Taumarunui set a new solo nine-hours Merino ewe shearing world record of 540 at Rockliffe, where he has built up one of the state’s bigger shearing businesses at Boyup Brook. And the schedule was tough having to shear a sheep-a-minute pace Floyde broke the previous record of 530 shorn by fellow-New Zealander Stacey Te Huia in New South Wales eight years ago. And to top that he was also part of Floyde Neil establishing a two-stand record of 1066 with his 28-year-old brother Levi who shore 526.
