Ongoing immigration delays for itinerant shearers are causing issues. The shearers who supplement the locals over Summer have been waiting for more than a month and have now been advised it will be another two months to get through the backlog and get that approval. Meanwhile the price of air travel is ramping up. It has been a well worn pathway for years to have Northern Hemisphere shearers come here and work the kiwi summer. Shearing Assn President Mark Barrowclough says this year however not enough itinerant shearers are getting through the immigration backlog.
