The Ford Ranger NZ Rural Games was back after being cancelled last year due to Covid. The event at the weekend proved a real winner with the weather obliging right in the heart of middle NZ. Nearly 40,000 people came to enjoy an amazing array of rural sports and saw some fascinating results…
In the speed shearing Jimmy Samuels took out the final – eliminating two time champion Jack Fagan along the way… Jimmy shore his two sheep in 39 seconds… And in the women Sacha Bond was the winner over fellow world record holder Megan Whitehead.
In the speed fencing five time champion Hawkes Bays Tony Bouskill was beaten in the final by his father Shane. And in the coal shoveling 70 year old Richie Banks showed up his much younger opponents by proving that 50 years in the business does count by winning the singles and the doubles titles.
